The WINHUB logistics project by the TERWIN Corporation has been included in the list of the most promising investment projects by the Ministry of Economy of Ukraine, which were presented at the Ukraine Recovery Conference 2024 in Berlin.
This is a large-scale project aimed at developing Ukraine's logistics capabilities and constructing logistics hubs covering 1 million square meters. The planned investment amount is $700 million.
This year's conference brought together leaders from progressive governments, international organizations, businesses, and civil society under the slogan: "United in Defense. United in Recovery. Stronger Together." URC2024 continues the series of annual high-level events dedicated to the rapid recovery and long-term reconstruction of Ukraine since the start of Russia's full-scale aggression against Ukraine.
At URC2024, TERWIN Corporation presented its investment project WINHUB, which will contribute to the growth of the Ukrainian economy and retail sector. The project includes the construction of Class A warehouse facilities covering over 1 million square meters in four regions of Ukraine. These are not just warehouse complexes but full-fledged business infrastructure, currently unmatched in Ukraine. The hub's design is based on principles of energy efficiency, environmental sustainability, and ergonomics. Energy efficiency involves the optimal use of resources and energy-saving technologies. Environmental sustainability includes the use of alternative energy sources, a complete waste management cycle, packaging, and the use of rainwater. Ergonomics involves maximizing the effectiveness of all hub spaces.
"URC2024 once again demonstrated the high interest of Western investors in Ukrainian projects. Our country shows incredible economic resilience during the war, and today the world sees a reliable partner in Ukraine and Ukrainian business. The country needs large-scale projects that can significantly strengthen the Ukrainian economy in various sectors. Our WINHUB project is aimed at developing Ukraine's logistics potential. Currently, Ukraine has only 1.5 million square meters of Class A warehouse facilities, compared to 30 million square meters in neighboring Poland. As participants in the European market, we need quality logistics infrastructure in Ukraine. Based on market needs and our own trading networks, we launched the construction of a logistics hub covering 1 million square meters in four regions of Ukraine and began negotiations with Western investors to implement this project," noted Ruslan Shostak, president of the TERWIN Corporation and co-owner of the EVA and VARUS networks.
The creation of new quality infrastructure offers several advantages for both businesses and society.
Advantages for businesses:
- Increasing the efficiency of warehouse space use will lead to faster delivery times and lower delivery costs.
- Comprehensive services will be ensured by having various types of warehouses at one location to meet different tenant requirements, as well as additional professional and modern services.
- Innovation and professional staff training. Developing a logistics R&D center and partnering with domestic and international universities will allow for the implementation of advanced global logistics experience and the training of high-class personnel from the student level.
- Intermodality — combining road and rail transport in one location.
- Working with export/import operations based on the customs-licensed warehouses of the hub and related customs services.
- Safety for employees. The design phase includes shelters for 100% of the personnel with full infrastructure.
Advantages of creating the hub for local communities, local businesses, and the state:
- New jobs. Up to 25,000 jobs will be created during the construction and operational phases of the hubs. For every job directly in the logistics hub, an additional 2-3 new jobs can be created in related businesses and small businesses in the nearby communities.
- Development of local businesses and relevant infrastructure. An ecosystem of related businesses with a socio-economic focus will be created based on the hubs: hostels, supermarkets, service stations for trucks, kindergartens, gyms, food courts, waste collection and processing services, and car-sharing services for cars and electric vehicles.
- Development of local social infrastructure. Creation of modern public spaces at the hub location: ponds, bike paths, recreational areas, and places for cultural events in cooperation with local communities, and an ecological public transport system.
The WINHUB project will make a significant contribution to the restoration and development of Ukraine's logistics infrastructure, supporting the country's economic growth and improving its competitiveness and investment attractiveness on the international stage.
